A middle school teacher resigns after making a comment about her student’s cleavage.
Teacher Joan Bannister felt that the neckline of her student’s shirt was too provocative, and chose to reconcile the situation by commenting publicly about it before using a ruler to measure the amount of exposed cleavage.
After the student complained, an investigation was launched that ended with Bannister resigning.
The girl allegedly said in her complaint that Bannister approached holding a ruler, seeking to measure her “boobage.”
Though she denied using the “boobage” terminology, Bannister did admit to addressing the top’s non compliance with the school’s dress code. She added that she also never touched the girl, but reportedly admitted that she “could have handled the situation better.”

incident occurred Jan. 30, when 53-year-old Bannister reportedly drew attention
to the girl’s attire
as
she sat in her math class at
Eustis Middle
School.
The girl allegedly said in her complaint that Bannister approached holding a ruler, seeking to measure her “boobage.”
Though she denied using the “boobage” terminology, Bannister did admit to addressing the top’s non compliance with the school’s dress code. She added that she also never touched the girl, but reportedly admitted that she “could have handled the situation better.”
During the investigation, which took
place in February, Bannister was allegedly taken out of the classroom. She had
since been allowed back, but with the district’s recommendation of a five-day
unpaid suspension.
Bannister requested a hearing instead, but then resigned before it could commence on April 2. She had reportedly been a teacher at the school since 2005.
